Finance And Business | Tips on how to perform a credit card ...

Learning more about credit card comparison is a topic all consumers can benefit from. This is important for not only for those who are seeking a new line of credit but also for those who are seeking to re-establish or repair old credit problems. The problem, of course, is how does one go about getting the information needed for an intelligent credit card comparison in the first place and what should the consumer look for?

When performing a credit card comparison, it is important to look for the lowest interest rates. These rates will vary from card to card, and, in some cases, can vary a great deal. As one might imagine, it is always in the consumer's best interest to get the lowest interest rate. This will save the consumer money over time. For those who may have less than stellar credit, it is important to avoid those cards that have exceedingly high rates attached to them. Many companies that serve those with low credit scores will charge rates that approach twenty percent!

As you do your credit card comparison, try to figure out the average interest rate for those who are in the same financial situation as you are. This will give you some idea of what to look for and what to avoid. There are online services, such as Credit Card Insider, that can help you get the information that you need to make a wise decision.

It is also important when doing your credit card comparison to try to avoid cards that charge annual fees. If this is not possible, try to find those companies that charge the least amount in these fees. Not all companies will charge an annual fee, however, and these are the ones you should try to work with. Annual fees are sometimes applied to cards that offer special services and, for this reason, may not always be avoidable.

Another good tip when doing your credit card compassion is to look for companies that are offering deals. Some companies will offer great incentives to new customers. If these incentives are worthwhile to you, then consider applying for those cards. Be careful though as many consumers will sign up for deals and then never take advantage of them. If a company offers something of value to you, fine. But if the deal is not of interest to you, look for other offers that do offer something of value to you.

The same applies to those companies that offer promotions or rewards plans. These can benefit many consumers, but only if the rewards are of value to the consumer. Cash back rewards are very popular and benefit virtually everyone who participates in them. Other types of rewards are less broad-based and may not be of much value, depending on the consumer.

As you go about your credit card comparison work, look for those companies that offer the types of rewards, promotions and incentives that are of interest to you. Bypass those that do not. Again, using a site such as Credit Card Insider can make quick work of finding out who is offering what and what they are charging for those services, rewards, etc.

Terror in Europe fuels immigration tensions

LONDON (AP) ? An al-Qaida-inspired gunman kills paratroopers and Jewish children in southern France. A far-right fanatic enraged by Muslim immigration guns down dozens of youths at a summer camp in Norway.

Two atrocities in the space of the year, coming from opposite ends of the spectrum, are raising fears across Europe that a growing climate of ethnic and religious hostility is inspiring extremist violence ? and creating the conditions for deadly clashes.

The attacks in France and Norway represent the most horrific extremes of two trends of intolerance troubling Europe: strengthening far-right sentiment that has sometimes bled into the mainstream, and growing Islamic radicalization in Europe's disadvantaged, immigrant-heavy neighborhoods.

With Europe still stunned by last week's killings in Toulouse, France, a loosely knit group of xenophobic "defense leagues" plans to rally in Denmark Saturday against what they call the growing Islamic presence in western Europe.

The rally was organized by one of the rising forces of Europe's far-right scene ? the Danish Defense League. It's backed by the English Defense League, which gained prominence in Britain amid urban rioting last summer. Similar groups from Russia, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Poland, Romania, and Sweden are expected.

Danish intelligence services expect up to 700 of these strident, anti-Muslim "counter-Jihadists." A counter-demonstration is anticipated to draw several thousand people. Police vow to keep the two groups apart. But the clashing views on display show Europe's heightened polarization.

"These terrorist events are creating sparks, and a small spark can set off a huge fire," said Magnus Ranstorp, research director of the Center for Asymmetric Threat Studies in Sweden. "It can set off huge social polarization, and this is what the terrorists want to achieve. Now there is an increased rightwing climate ? the counter-jihad movement ? feeding off these Islamophobic forces."

The mood is volatile, Ranstrop said, made more so by the methods of the killers ? citing how in France, Mohamed Merah shot video of his attacks that was mailed to the Al-Jazeera television network.

"You have the counter-jihad movement, and on the other side you have an old al-Qaida structure giving out directives for people to carry out their own personal jihads by solo terrorist activity. The manner in which you carry out these attacks matters: Recording them, sending films to Al-Jazeera, shooting people execution style, all to create polarization and revulsion, to create an overreaction."

For decades, western Europe has been the envy of the world with its high standard of living and tolerant social climate. Today, Europe is gripped by a profound economic crisis and festering conflict over immigration, religion and cultural identity.

Tensions over immigration from northern Africa and other countries with large Islamic populations have fueled the rise of far-right movements across Europe. In France, the ultranationlist National Front is expected to make gains in upcoming presidential and legislative elections. Xenophobic parties in Austria, Finland, Sweden and the Netherlands have all gained support in recent years.

As anti-immigration rhetoric grows more strident, ideas that were once considered on the fringes of political dialogue have entered the mainstream ? with French President Nicolas Sarkozy often seeming to borrow from National Front rhetoric as he campaigns for re-election.

At the same time, anti-Western diatribes on the Internet and sometimes in local mosques have played a role in radicalizing some young Muslims in Europe, even as Muslim community leaders try to steer young people toward productive futures. The long wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have also enflamed passions among Muslims.

Over the past year, Europe has suffered deadly manifestations of these tensions with the France attacks and the July massacre in Norway carried out by Anders Behring Breivik, who slaughtered 77 people with a bomb in Oslo followed by a shooting rampage at a Labor Party youth camp on an island retreat.

The two horrors have drawn inevitable comparisons.

Both killers had a terrifying sense of theater. Breveik's island rampage, in which he picked off the trapped children one at a time, seemed straight out of a horror movie. The French police account of Merah's last stand, his Colt .45 blazing as he jumped from the balcony, seems inspired by an action film.

Initial reactions to the attacks point to the ambiguities swirling around Europe's immigration debate.

When Breveik's deadly bomb ripped through the Norwegian capital on July 22, many counterterrorism experts assumed Muslim radicals were behind the blast. Similarly, many initially suspected that the French killings might be the work of a far-right fanatic.

The bloodshed carried out by both extremes in the heated immigration debated raises the specter of clashes between the two. There already have been street scuffles between the English Defense League and radical Islamists in Britain ? although none has escalated into major violence.

Nicolas Lebourg, a historian who studies the far-right at Perpignan University in southern France, said that both Breivik and Merah were products of an increasingly polarized Europe.

"For people who are a little fragile, people who are a little sensitive ... we're overheating them by telling them that there's this cosmic war between good and evil," Lebourg said.

G. Willi-Food Reports Q4 2011 Sales Down 16.8% From Q4 2010 ...

YAVNE, Israel, March 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

G. Willi-Food International Ltd. (NASDAQ: WILC) (the "Company" or "Willi-Food"), a global company specializing in the development, manufacturing, marketing and international distribution of kosher foods, today announced its financial results for the fourth quarter and the fiscal year ended December 31, 2011.

Fourth Quarter Fiscal 2011 Highlights

  • Sales decreased 16.8% from fourth quarter of 2010 to NIS 59.1 million (US$ 15.5 million)
  • Gross profit decreased 60.4% from fourth quarter of 2010 to NIS 7.5 million (US$ 2.0 million), or 12.7% of sales
  • Operating loss of NIS 4.1 million (US$ 1.1 million) compared to operating income of NIS 6.2 million (US$ 1.6 million) in the fourth quarter of 2010
  • Net income decreased 65.4% from fourth quarter of 2010 to NIS 2.8 million (US$ 0.7 million), or 4.7% of sales
  • Net income attributed to the owners of the Company decreased 60.3% from fourth quarter of 2010 to NIS 2.9 million (US$ 0.8 million), or 5.0% of sales
  • Cash and securities balance of NIS 198.1 million (US$ 51.8 million) as of December 31, 2011

As announced by the Company on December 18, 2011 and January 2, 2012, Willi-Food sold its entire 51% ownership interest in Shamir Salads for NIS 12 million to other shareholders of Shamir Salads as a result of settlement of a dispute with those shareholders. In addition, the Company received NIS 1.5 million in past due management fees as part of the settlement. As a result of the sale, the results of the operation of Shamir Salads, which comprised the entire manufacturing segment, is presented as discontinued operations. See Note C below.

Willi-Food's operating divisions include Willi-Food, a distributor of a broad variety of kosher foods, and its wholly-owned Gold Frost, a designer, developer and distributor of branded kosher dairy food products.

Fourth Quarter Fiscal 2011 Summary

Sales for the fourth quarter of 2011 decreased by 16.8% to NIS 59.1 million (US$ 15.5 million) from NIS 71.0 million (US$ 18.6 million) recorded in the fourth quarter of 2010. The decrease in sales in the fourth quarter was primarily due to ongoing national protest against the cost of food products as well as continued recession and economic uncertainty.

Gross profit for the fourth quarter of 2011 decreased by 60.4% to NIS 7.5 million (US$ 2.0 million) from NIS 18.9 million (US$ 5.0 million) recorded in the fourth quarter of 2010. Fourth quarter gross margin was 12.7% compared to gross margin of 26.7% for the same period in 2010. The decrease in gross profit and gross margins was primarily due to reductions in the prices of certain of our products as a result of continued pressure from our customers to reduce prices, an increase in global prices of food products compounded by the recent strengthening of the U.S. dollar versus the NIS (which depreciated 2.9% in the fourth quarter of 2011) and the general effects of the global economic recession. The Company expects the decline in its gross margins to continue in the first quarter of 2012 compared to 2011 first quarter's gross margins. To the extent that customer pressure to reduce prices continues, or global prices of food products continue to increase, or the depreciation of the NIS versus the U.S. dollar continues, the Company's gross margins may be impacted beyond the first quarter of 2012.

Mr. Zwi Williger, Chairman of Willi-Food commented, "As with the third quarter, fourth quarter results were affected dramatically by reduced customer consumption of our food products combined with ongoing pressure by customers to lower food selling prices, both of which caused us to decrease the selling price of some of our products. This quarter was also affected by an increase in global purchase prices, depreciation of the NIS versus the U.S. dollar, and an environment of continued recession and uncertainty in the financial markets in our home market and abroad. We believe that Willi-Food's results in the first quarter of 2012 will continue to be impacted by these forces, including significant economic headwinds." ?

Willi-Food's operating loss for the fourth quarter of 2011 was NIS 4.1 million (US$ 1.1 million) compared to operating income of NIS 6.2 million (US$ 1.6 million) recorded in the fourth quarter of 2010. Selling expenses decreased by 12.1% from the comparable quarter of 2010, primarily due to aggressive expense reduction initiatives. Selling expenses as a percentage of sales increased in the fourth quarter of 2011 to 12.3% compared to 11.7% in the fourth quarter of 2010. General and administrative expenses decreased by 3.6% from the comparable quarter of 2010. General and administrative expenses as a percentage of sales increased in the fourth quarter of 2011 to 7.3% from 6.3% in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Willi-Food's loss before taxes for the fourth quarter of 2011 was NIS 1.6 million (US$ 0.4 million) compared to income before taxes of NIS 8.3 million (US$ 2.2 million) recorded in the fourth quarter of 2010. Willi-Food's loss from continuing operations for the fourth quarter of 2011 was NIS 0.6 million (US$ 0.2 million) compared to income from continuing operations of NIS 6.9 million (US$ 1.8 million) recorded in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Willi-Food's income from discontinuing operations increased 194.8% to NIS 3.4 million (US$ 0.9 million) compared to NIS 1.2 million (US$ 0.3 million) recorded in the fourth quarter of 2010. Fourth quarter income from discontinuing operations in 2011 and 2010 includes the Company's manufacturing segment comprised of Shamir Salads. The income from discontinuing operations in the fourth quarter of 2011 mainly represents the net capital gain from sale of Willi-Food's 51% ownership interest in Shamir Salads.

Willi-Food's net income in the fourth quarter of 2011 decreased 65.4% to NIS 2.8 million (US$ 0.7 million) from NIS 8.1 million (US$ 2.1 million) recorded in the fourth quarter of 2010. Willi-Food's net income attributed to the owners of the Company in the fourth quarter of 2011 decreased 60.3% to NIS 2.9 million (US$ 0.8 million), or NIS 0.22 (US$ 0.06) per share, compared to NIS 7.4 million (US$ 1.9 million), or NIS 0.55 (US$ 0.14) per share, recorded in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Willi-Food ended the fourth quarter of 2011 with NIS 198.1 million (US$ 51.8 million) in cash and securities and with no short-term debt. Willi-Food's shareholders' equity at the end of December 2011 was NIS 310.3 million (US$ 81.2 million).

Fiscal 2011 Highlights

  • Sales decreased 2.5% from fiscal 2010 to NIS 264.4 million (US$ 69.2 million)
  • Gross profit decreased 19.0% from fiscal 2010 to NIS 61.7 million (US$ 16.1 million), or 23.3% of sales
  • Operating income decreased 37.6% from fiscal 2010 to NIS 17.1 million (US$ 4.5 million), or 6.5% of sales
  • Net income decreased 38.6% from fiscal 2010 to NIS 18.5 million (US$ 4.85 million), or 7.0% of sales
  • Net income attributed to the owners of the Company decreased 35.0% from fiscal 2010 to NIS 18.3 ?million (US$ 4.79 million), or 6.9% of sales

Fiscal 2011 Results

Willi-Food's sales for fiscal 2011 decreased by 2.5% to NIS 264.4 million (US$ 69.2 million) from NIS 271.1 million (US$ 71.0 million) reported in fiscal 2010. Gross profit for the year decreased 19.0% to NIS 61.7 million (US$ 16.1 million) from NIS 76.2 million (US$ 19.9 million) in fiscal 2010. Fiscal 2010 gross margins were 23.3% compared to gross margins of 28.1% in fiscal 2010.

Net income attributable to the owners of the Company for fiscal 2011 decreased by 35.0% to NIS 18.3 million (US $4.8 million), or NIS 1.35 (US$ 0.35) per share, compared to net income attributable to the owners of the Company for fiscal 2010 of NIS 28.2 million (US$ 7.4 million), or NIS 2.18 (US$ 0.57) per share.

Business Outlook

Mr. Williger commented, "Going forward, we are facing a significant increase in the level of uncertainty in the global economy. In Israel, economic uncertainty is coupled with changes in the Israeli market and ongoing consumer demand for price reductions that we expect will negatively affect our results in the beginning of 2012. Due to the global and Israeli economic situations affecting our customer base both in the retail and wholesale markets, and both in Israel and abroad, we expect that growth in sales will cease in 2012. We expect net income for the first quarter of 2012 to be significantly lower than the comparable prior quarter."

Mr. Williger continued, "This is the first quarter that we are reporting our results with Shamir Salads as a discontinued operation. The results we achieved as majority owners of Shamir Salads were disappointing, while the conflict and arbitration proceeding between Willi-Food and the other shareholders diverted management's time and attention from our core business. With that now behind us, we anticipate being able to focus on core business development issues."

Mr. Williger concluded, "Our foreseeable challenge will be to manage expenses, and in particular the cost of our products, in order to accommodate our consumers' continued desire to acquire lower cost products. However, we believe that this period of economic uncertainty presents an opportunity for us to utilize cash on hand to purchase synergetic companies at prices lower than before. We continue to look for opportunities to create additional value for our shareholders." ?

Sports Fitness: Fun Way to be Healthy | Votenc Mental Health

When you talk about sports fitness, what comes first in your mind? It is, basically, the different sports activities, right? This is because sports fitness has always been referred to as the sports itself.

Generally, sports entail physical activities that are usually carried out for some ?recreational? functions such as self-satisfaction, entertainment, competition, etc. It uses physical activity that is why most fitness experts regard sports as one way of staying fit and healthy. It can also be considered as one way of physical fitness; the only difference is that sports fitness is more inclined to the development of skill or ability.

However, like physical fitness, sports fitness is also capable of toning down the body fats of a person. Because of its rigid and strict health program, a sports enthusiast is able to maintain a well-balanced lifestyle in order to cope up with the strenuous demands of sports.

In sports, people should learn how to value their health. Otherwise, they can never endure the kind of energy that is required when playing sports activities.

Therefore, for people whoa re into sports fitness, here are some tips that you could use in order to stay healthy and be active on whatever sports you want to pursue:

1. Drinks lots of water

Humans can survive days, or even months without food, but they can never last a day without water.

Water is, indeed, the most important element needed by the body. Excessive perspiration, without any means of replenishing the lost fluids will result to serious health problems, and even death.

Therefore, for people who are into strenuous exercises and trainings, it is best to always drink lots of water.

However, for sports enthusiasts, water may not be enough to replace the kind of fluid lost. Hence, it would be better if they would have sports drinks instead. Aside from the fluid, sports drinks have tow additional important ingredients needed by a person who is into sports fitness: carbohydrates and electrolytes.

Electrolytes are usually lost during strenuous physical activity, and this can only be replaced through sports drinks. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, are also needed by the body during rigid workouts to provide more energy so that the body can cope up to the demands of the activity.

2. More veggies!

People who are into sports fitness require more intakes of vegetables and fruits. This is because the body is craving for more vitamins and mineral supplements. It makes the body stronger and healthier enabling it to cope up with demands of the activity.

3. Calcium intake

People who are into sports fitness should have calcium present on their diet. This is to provide stronger bones to the body.

Since the body is more exposed to greater physical activities, it is important to have stronger bones in order to avoid fractures or certain bone diseases like ?osteoporosis.?

Calcium can be found in different vitamin and mineral supplements. They are also abundant in foods like sardines, tofu, dairy products, etc.

4. Warm exercises are always important before any kind of strenuous activities.

This kind of activity is needed in order not to strain the body. Hence, before playing the sports that you have always love, it is best to do some warm-up exercises first.

Indeed, engaging into sports activities is one great way of being physically fit. The best thing about it is that in sports, you get to enjoy the best of both worlds.

FILE - This undated and unlocated frame grab provided Wednesday, March 21, 2012, by French TV station France 2 shows the suspect in the killing of 3 paratroopers, 3 children and a rabbi in March 2012. Britain has planned for a dizzying array of security nightmares surrounding the Olympics, including a coordinated attack like the London transit bombings, a dirty bomb or a cyberattack. In the wake of France's deadly shootings, one scenario weighing heavily on the minds of security officials is the self-starter operating with little or no help from others. (AP Photo/France 2, File)

(AP) ? Britain has planned for a dizzying array of security nightmares surrounding the Olympics, including a coordinated attack like the London transit bombings, a dirty bomb or a cyberattack.

In the wake of France's deadly shootings, one scenario weighing heavily on the minds of security officials is the self-starter operating with little or no help from others.

And, they admit, there are limits to what security personnel can do.

"You cannot exclude something similar," said Denis Oswald, head of the International Olympic Committee's coordination commission for the London Games.

"Every Olympic venue will be specially protected, but of course, when you are in the street, people waiting for the bus waiting to go to an Olympic venue could be a target."

Mohamed Merah ? a 23-year-old Muslim extremist who says he trained in Afghanistan ? claimed responsibility for killing paratroopers, Jewish children and a rabbi in a weeklong shooting rampage in the French city of Toulouse. Police shot him dead last week after a 32-hour standoff.

French politicians have painted him as a "lone wolf" killer. But police are looking for possible accomplices, and suspicions grew that he had help when it turned out an apparent video of the attacks sent to the Al-Jazeera news network was not sent by Merah.

French officials say Merah moved in extremist Muslim circles in France and had been to Afghanistan twice. He told police he had trained in the Pakistani militant stronghold of Waziristan. He also had a long criminal record and a brother who had been suspected in a 2007 network that sent militant fighters to Iraq.

But French officials say there wasn't enough evidence of a threat to put Mohamed Merah under regular surveillance. Olympic security officials face a similar problem with some Islamic radicals in Britain ahead of the games.

"The reality is that there are hosts of people like this and most of them will never do anything," said a British government official who spoke on condition of anonymity to the AP because of the sensitivity of his work. "You can't follow everyone around."

That doesn't mean Britain isn't one of the most high-security nations in the Western world.

Since British suicide bombers killed 52 people during rush-hour attacks on July 7, 2005, MI5 and police counterterrorism units have vastly boosted their intelligence network. The country's surveillance agency, known as GCHQ, has the capability to listen in on people's telephone conversations and monitor their online communications. Surveillance units have also been attached to troops serving in places such as Afghanistan, specifically to gather intelligence that may lead back to Britain.

There are also special teams to look at suspect financial transactions ? an aspect of anti-terror strategy that gained more attention following last year's terror attacks in Norway.

Rightist extremist Anders Behring Breivik's set off a 2,100-pound (950-kilogram) fertilizer bomb in the heart of Oslo that killed eight people before going on a shooting rampage at youth camp that left 69 dead. Breivik's name came up on a list of people who had transferred money to Polish chemical firm under scrutiny in an international anti-terror initiative ? but Norwegian authorities didn't investigate further because his order was so small.

"The profile of these loners is different to what we saw with the four suicide bombers in 2005," said Noman Benotman, a former jihadist with links to al-Qaida who still maintains contacts within the jihadist community. "Many of them have some training, a strong conviction and they manage to stay off the radar for the most part."

Although the 8,000-mile torch relay starts in May ? more than two months ahead of the games ? security and law enforcement officials are bracing for a number of potential threats as the torch snakes though Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and parts of the U.K.

Inside Britain's domestic spy agency of MI5, a clock counts down the minutes before the torch arrives in England.

"To terrorists, the Olympics present a golden opportunity because they know they will get the world's attention," said Benotman, who now works as an analyst for the London-based Quilliam Foundation. "It doesn't really matter whether they kill seven or 70."

Although there is no intelligence to suggest a credible and specific threat to the games, officials have spent years taking precautions for the Olympics since London won the bid the day before the 2005 attacks.

Britain is already known as a leader in 'Big Brother' surveillance ? there are nearly 30 CCTV cameras near George Orwell's house alone in North London. The author of "1984" warned more than six decades ago of a time when it would be nearly impossible to escape from the watchful eyes of the state.

For the games, more cameras will be added to Britain's 4.3 million, and some will be used in conjunction with advanced facial recognition software and databases that can match vehicle registration numbers to names.

Olympic venues have also been designed with security threats in mind ? special shatterproof glass has been installed, structures have been built with advice from explosives experts and pathways have been laden with curves and gaps deliberately meant to slow down a potential attacker.

"If you look at the Internet, there are web sites calling exactly for these types of lone-wolf attacks," said Rob Wainwright, head of The Hague-based Europol, which will be sharing databases with law enforcement officials during the Olympics.

US to pursue 'non-lethal' aid for Syrian rebels

(AP) ? Seeking to stem the violence in Syria, the U.S. and other key allies are considering providing Syrian rebels with communications help, medical aid and other "non-lethal" assistance.

President Barack Obama discussed the potential aid options Sunday in a lengthy private meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Both leaders are in Seoul, South Korea for a nuclear security summit.

Turkey has been a key U.S. partner in international efforts to quell violence in neighboring Syria and push President Bashar Assad to leave power. The United Nations estimates 8,000 people ? many civilian protesters ? have been killed in year-long clashes between forces loyal to Assad and opposition fighters.

Ben Rhodes, the White House deputy national security adviser for strategic communication, said Sunday that communications assistance could be critical to the opposition's efforts.

"It's important to the opposition as they're formulating their vision of an inclusive and democratic Syria to have the ability to communicate," Rhodes told reporters traveling with Obama.

The U.S. has been loath to intervene militarily in Syria or provide the rebels with weapons, saying that would only serve to further militarize an already violent situation. The Obama administration and its allies have been seeking ways to provide humanitarian assistance in Syria.

Rhodes said the prospect of providing the rebels with non-lethal assistance would be a central focus of the April 1 meeting of the diplomatic group "Friends of Syria." Turkey is hosting the upcoming meeting and the U.S. will be represented by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The U.N. refugee agency estimates 230,000 Syrians have fled their homes since the uprising against Assad's regime began last year. About 16,000 refugees live in refugee camps in Turkey.

"'We cannot remain a spectator to these developments," Erdogan said following his meeting with Obama.

The U.S., Europe and many Arab states have called on Assad to stand down, but Russia and China have protected Syria from condemnation by the U.N. Security Council.

Earlier this week, the council passed a nonbinding statement calling for a cease-fire to allow for dialogue between all sides on a political solution and the delivery of aid to suffering civilians.

While Obama has repeatedly said that the demise of Assad's regime is inevitable, there are few signs that he plans to step down any time soon.

The U.S. and European allies have sought to ratchet up economic pressure on Assad's regime with a series of sanctions, including fresh European Union penalties on Assad's British-born wife.

Why Fish Make Such Great Pets | The Pet City - Conner Ken8122's ...

Pets can either be a great addition to your household or a big disturbance. When discussing the feasibility of fish at pets, they can be great for many reasons that are reasons not to get other pets.

First of all, fish are the quietest pets. Unlike other pets, they don?t make a cornucopia of unpleasant noises when aggravated, afraid, upset or hungry ? they are indeed the most silent type of pet.

Fish don?t do their business where they aren?t supposed to, or make you do the unpleasant task of cleaning up their waste. All you need to do to clean up after a fish is to clean their bowls or fish tanks every month or so, and you don?t need to give them all sorts of housebreaking training to make them leave their waste in a litter box.

Unlike other animals, fishes do not shed and won?t leave their old skin on places you wouldn?t want. They aren?t like your usual pets who cover your rugs, carpets and couches with animal hair, clog your vacuum cleaner or shed on your brand new suit. They don?t bring up hairballs either. Fishes jump in and out of the water, but not up and down on your brand new couch, and wouldn?t soil your clothes or curtains either.

Fish aren?t food thieves who raid your dinner table, and won?t ?join? you at the dinner table either. Because fishes swim in tanks of water, they do not need any bathing, brushing, water, or shade. Aside from feeding them, fish don?t need any daily maintenance, like taking them out for a walk or roughhousing with them or throwing a Frisbee for them to catch. They won?t do the same as dogs by peeing next to your car tires, chomping on the plants in your garden, or burrowing in your lawn.

Loud noises don?t mean a thing to fishes. This means you can celebrate holidays like New Year?s Day or the Fourth Of July without having to worry about tranquilizing your excitable pets, or seeing them all bloodied up from fireworks explosions when you get home.

You can talk to fish and they don?t talk back. They can provide company without demanding it. They are fun to watch, and pretty, and easy to care for. And you don?t need to open any cans or clean any bowls of food ? all you need to do is sprinkle a few flakes of fish food twice a day to keep your fish from going hungry.

Unfortunately, fish aren?t too receptive ? if they are receptive at all ? to your presence. They don?t snuggle up against you, or keep your feet warm in winter. You can?t hug fish unless you want to squeeze them to death, nor can you play with them outside of tapping the glass. They won?t comfort you if your significant other leaves you for another guy/girl, or visit you in your room when you?re too sick for school or work. If that?s what you?re looking for from your pet then get a fish.

Nokia Creative Studio brings panorama capture to Lumia handsets (hands-on)

Nokia Creative Studio brings panorama capture to Lumia handsets (hands-on)
Nokia recently launched a new photography app called Creative studio which is available in the Windows Phone Marketplace exclusively for its Lumia handsets. Part panorama stitcher, part photo filter and part image editor, the app lets you take new pictures or chose shots from existing albums and tweak them to your heart's content. It features ten Instagram-like effects (including vignette and auto-enhance) plus seven common adjustments (such as crop and sharpness). We took the app for a spin and the UI is pretty slick, with an optional side-by-side before and after view of the photo you are currently editing. Once done, you have the option to continue applying additional effects and making further adjustments, save the image or share it. Twitter, Flickr and Facebook are supported, but sadly there's no integration with Windows Phone's People Hub -- you'll have to login to each service in the app itself. Check out the screen shots in the gallery below and hit the break for more impressions and some samples.
